For those of us who live in a cold climate, it is time to think about winterizing your patio furniture. As much as we dislike the thought of no longer enjoying those beautiful summer nights on the patio, we would like to help make the process a little less grueling. Below we have provided 3 tips on How to Winterize Your Patio Furniture:
1. Patio Furniture
When it’s time to pack away your patio furniture for the winter, it is important you give it a good clean. This is a good idea as you don’t want your patio furniture sitting in dirt from the summer. Although it is important to clean you do not have to go overboard, as your furniture will accumulate some dust and dirt when not in use in. However, it is crucial that you do a quick clean by wiping off dirt and debris from your tables, chairs, loveseats, and sofas. Make sure that your clean outdoor furniture dries completely before it is either stored away or covered for the winter.
2. Outdoor Cushions
Outdoor patio cushions can be subject to a lot of wear and tear over the season. They can also accumulate a lot of dirt, dust, and debris. To clean the cushions simply brush off any loose dirt and clean with warm water (no more than 100°F) and mild natural soap. Make sure to rinse off the cushions thoroughly to remove all of the soap and let them dry completely. It is beneficial to store your cushions in a bag indoors or in your garage to prevent any dirt accumulation. Your outdoor cushions should always be stored away in the winter because animals like to store food between the cushions which can cause a lot of damage.
3. Umbrellas
Cleaning umbrellas can be a bit tricky because of the size and location. It is always a good idea to wipe off any dirt, pollen, or debris and wash it with warm water and mild natural soap if it is a little bit dirtier. Once your umbrella is completely dry, it is best if it is stored indoors, in a shed, or in a garage. It is crucial not to store any umbrellas or cushions inside when they are wet as mold growth can occur.
Keep using it!
If you live in a location that doesn’t experience a harsh winter or you just get lucky with mild winter weather this year, you may as well continue to use your patio furniture. With this being said keep all your patio furniture covered when not in use and have your cushions and pillows stored indoors and ready to be used at a moment’s notice.
