The season for pool parties isn’t over just yet! To celebrate the end of summer we have created a list of 5 tips for an outdoor pool party below!
1. Spread the word
If you want to get your friends and family excited about a fun pool party, we suggest creating themed invitations for your guests. If you are having a themed pool party, try coordinating your invitations with your decorations. However, if you have a bit of a time crunch or are undecided, good old fashion pool party invitations will do the trick.
2. Must-have supplies
A pool party requires a bit of extra planning when it comes to the supply list. Some additional items you may need are beach towels, sunscreen, aloe, water, and a first-aid kit. Pool parties lend themselves to burns and scrap knees so it is best if you are prepared. One thing you don’t want anywhere near the pool is glass. Make sure that you let your guests know prior to the party that they should leave any glass containers for drinks or food at home.
3. Don’t skip on the decorations
Is it really a party if there aren’t any decorations? Why not go all out with the decorations by adding tropical drink straws, water balloons, beach balls, and colorful pool floats. Once the sun goes down pull out some glow sticks and tiki torches to keep the bugs at bay. If you are hosting a Hawaiian-themed pool party get your guests to dress in a Hawaiian shirt and a lei.
4. Include games
Although the main attraction of a pool party is to spend the day in the pool, it is a good idea to have some games prepared for your guests. Some fun games to play during the party would be water volleyball, large Jenga, badminton, and slip and slide for the kids. Have a deck of cards on hand just in case as a couple games of crazy eights or president may be just what your guests’ need.
5. Make sure the Menu is Pool Party Friendly
When planning a menu for a pool party there are a couple things you should take into consideration. Make sure that you have snacks ready that are easy to eat such as chips, nuts, and fruit as your guests will be in and out of the pool. When it is lunch or dinner time, fire up the grill and cook some burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers. Remember the rule of thumb, no swimming half an hour after you eat! And for dessert? Why not make pool or ocean inspired cupcakes!
